LM Gear History
With humble beginnings operating a clock and watch shop in the Detroit area Circa 1900, Louis Meier, started a business that would become the present-day L M Gear Company. The watch and clock repair shop grew into a prominent business that also produced "presentation quality" and "tower" clocks.
Meier then moved into a small industrial plant on Gratiot Avenue in Detroit where he could make gears for his clocks. This venture led to making gears for automotive, commercial, and industrial uses and after a while, his son took over the business and opened another shop to supply blanks for the gear manufacturing.
In 1939, the Watch and Clock store was sold and the gear manufacturing operations were moved to a new building in East Detroit, Michigan.
In the 1980's, both operations were moved to Chesterfield, Michigan. Shortly there after, Anderson Cook Company, a prominent Detroit machine tool builder acquired LM Gear Company. The company continues to operate today with the same integrity and craftsmanship that was instilled by the founder.
